Just spotted this on FaceBook. It's an app that lets you send documents from your PC to your Kindle. Once you install it, when you right click a document the pop-up menu contains a, "Send to Kindle" option. I assume it works via WiFi. http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=tsm_1_fb_kin_120112_sendtokin?ie=UTF8&docId=1000719931

I saw that and downloaded it. . .haven't tried it yet. . .one concern I have is that it indicates it gets sent as PDF. . .which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. OTOH, if it automatically 'prints' it to a PDF formatted for a 6" screen I guess that will work. Guess I'll have to play some tomorrow.

Guess it would be good for pdf manuals and the likes, but for editing, it will probably be quicker to just do it on your PC, i guess

Oh, it's absolutely NOT meant as an editing device. . .just a quicker way to get things to the Kindle. When you d/l it and set it up it asks for your amazon credentials. . .so it's really, to me, kind of a short cut to copying, saving, starting an email, attaching and sending. . . .it kind of does all that for you. Based on some other comments I've read about it here and there, it does send in Kindle format if convertible, but PDF's stay PDF's. . .you can't send them for conversion this way.

It's a conversion and send to app, as Ann says. After downloading, you give it (it's an Amazon app) access to your Amazon account. You can browse within Windows Explorer and right click on files which can be converted and choose "Send to Kindle" from the context menu. For files which cannot be converted, the "Send to Kindle" option will not appear. If you are within an application, you choose "Print" and choose "Send to Printer" as your printer. It appears to me that these documents are always going to be PDF, as it is printing to a PDF. In any case, whether choosing from Explorer or printing to Send to Kindle within an app, you always get the "Send to Kindle" dialog box and it will tell you at the bottom whether the document will be converted or sent as a PDF. It also allows you to choose whether to deliver via Wi_Fi (free), Whispernet (Charges may apply), which Kindle to deliver to, whether to archive the document in your Kindle libary and the upload size. EDIT: Just to verify, I took a word doc and right-clicked within Explorer to use the contextual menu to "Send to Kindle." That document was converted. Then, I opened the same document within Word and used the Print "Send to Kindle" option and that document was sent as a PDF. Betsy

Yep, that's the one. Thanks for the direct link! See the prior posts for a discussion on how it works. I just tried it and it's pretty easy.

So, I just played with it a bit. It's nice. Definitely streamlines the process. Works great with files already on my computer. I also sent a file from a website. . . I told it to "print" to the "send to kindle" printer and it showed up as a PDF on my Fire.
I'm really impressed with this, actually. And the files are also all archived on Amazon -- though you can de-select that option -- which means they're also available to my other devices. Very cool.
Something else occurs to me as well: Previously when sending you had to be sure you were using an approved address to send FROM. Now you don't really need to worry about that. You just need to be on a computer to which YOU have downloaded the "send to kindle" app and registered it to your account. I don't see where you can change the registration -- though that must be possible as people periodically change passwords and stuff. If so, it means people could share a computer and use it to send things to separate Kindle accounts. Hmmmm. . . . Or the app could be used on a public shared computer by calling it up, say at the library, sending it, and then de-linking it to your amazon account. Perhaps this is functionality that will be forthcoming. . . .

I'm really liking the Send to Kindle app. It's simple, easy, and completely out of the way until I need it. It's also one of those things that seems completely obvious now, but why didn't anybody think of it before?

Exactly! I always used the 'send to' option with files, I just sent it via email. This is definitely easier as I don't have to think about what address, etc. Two thumbs up, as they say!

I am really liking this app as well. It's great for sending an author's series of books in the correct order. Quick look-up when I need to know which book is next.

Just learned a neat feature of "Send to Kindle". You can give the file a name and author when you send it!
Previously, if you just sent it via email, it would use whatever file name the thing had and put your email address (the one you send from) as the author. But with this little utility you can give it a proper name and author when you send it.

I noticed that too. The first document I sent to my Kindle was "Declaration of Independence, by Musclehead". Even though I think highly of myself, I haven't quite put myself on the same level as the founding fathers. Since then, I've learned how to set the author.

As it's called "Send to Kindle for PC", I don't think so.
