Finally! I will have an e-ink Kindle in my hands tomorrow!

I've been reading my Amazon e-books on the Kindle for iPad app all this while but now that my two-year-old daughter has started calling the iPad her own I thought getting a Kindle Touch would be a good thing. I ordered one last week and it's due to arrive tomorrow.

I must say I'm very excited to finally have my very own e-Ink reader, I can't even sleep at night! I've spent years lusting over friends' devices and could never justify the price of buying one because such devices were always so expensive here in Malaysia. The Kindle Touch, even after adding shipping fees to Malaysia, is still a lot cheaper than the commonly available e-reader device available in Malaysian bookshops (iRiver Story HD).

Anyway, just needed to get this out of my system... like I said, I'm very excited! It's too bad the Lighted Cover I ordered for it will only arrive next fortnight.

I sold my KK for a Kindle Touch last week, and I am in love with my Touch! I loved my K2 and KK, but I think I like the Touch the best.

You guys are making more excited than I already am! Grin

I'm only meeting my friend who was kind enough to get it for me from the US in a few more hours but I feel like I could explode if I don't get that Touch right now. I need that wholesome e-ink goodness slathered all over my eyeballs!

I've already bought a whole bunch of books off of Amazon, downloaded the new 5.0.3 update, rearranged the items on my desk, washed the dishes, cleaned my study... not sure what else I can do to pass the time...

Well, I got it... then proceeded to forget the internet for a few days! Grin

I love, love, love, LOVE it.

It's all I ever wanted in an e-reader. I was never really attracted to earlier versions of the Kindle because I was always turned off by the form factor. I found the keyboard in the bottom to be obnoxious design-wise and the Kindle Touch looks great without it. I'm glad the software keyboard works adequately though, as I find I'm doing quite a bit of typing in a lot of unexpected situations (i.e. typing in search keywords on Twitter, Smashwords and Manybooks.net on the Kindle web browser.) Good thing I didn't go for the basic Kindle!

Speaking of the experimental web browser, it's better than I thought it would be. I had tested it out once before on a friend's Kindle Keyboard a while ago and thought it a waste of time. I think the touch capabilities really improve the experience.

The Kindle Touch itself is a bit heavier than I expected but still light enough for me to able to hold for hours on end so that's okay. It's a great improvement over reading on an iPad while standing on a crowded train. (ow my wrists!)

My Kindle Touch came with firmware 5.0.1 which I think was not pushed out as an update? I found page turning to be snappy and didn't really experience any of the glitches that other users were reporting. Granted, I only spent a day with the KT on 5.0.1 before I updated to 5.0.3. I have no complaints of the KT being unresponsive. It responds to all my actions.

I've already finished one novel on it (Old Man's War) and am already more than halfway through the sequel. It's true! I do find myself reading faster than usual on a Kindle!

I love the fact that I can simply touch a word and get the definition. I thought I would only be using the dictionary for words that I didn't know but I also seem to be using it with words that I do know but want to make sure I have the correct meaning and/or pronunciation.

All in all, I think I have only one complaint. It requires a bit more ambient light than a paper book and I always find myself sitting next to a window to get adequate lighting. My lighted cover can't arrive soon enough!

Toadhall, glad to hear you're enjoying your Kindle. I've had all of them (except the K1 and DX), and the Touch is definitely my favorite! The size is just right, and it has a classy look (especially with a skin on it). I love my Fire also, but it's in a different class than the other Kindles because it doesn't have e-ink.
