Please feel free to move this question to where it belongs, I place it here because I think it belongs here.

I have noticed that different kindle models never started their firmware version numbers at 1.0.  From what I understand of the kindle three, it started its life span at firmware version 3.0 and the fire started at version 6.0 and no I understand that the kindle touch started at version 3.0.  Please feel free to tell me I am nuts but shouldn't the firmware version numbers start at 1.0 and work there way up from there?

The first number of the version number is the model of the Kindle.

Kindle 1: 1.0
Kindle 2 & DX: 2.0
Kindle 3/Keyboard: 3.0
Kindle 4: 4.0

Kindle Touch: 5.0
Kindle Fire: 6.0

The second number is for each MAJOR upgrade and the third number is for each MINOR upgrade (usually not noticeable or only 1 or two changes)...

So if you see it go from 5.0.2 to 5.0.3 then it's a minor update, but if it goes from 5.0.2 to 5.1 it's a major update.

At the moment, these are all the most up to date updates for each version:

K1: 1.2
K2/DX: 2.5.8
K3: 3.3
K4: 4.0.1

KT: 5.0.3
Fire: 6.2.1

With some hardware devices it would appear the software developers just make up firmware versions as and when they see fit, i dont think there is an actual science behind it lol
