I have a book being distributed by Smashwords and I want to change and publish directly through PubIt. If I do this, will the new PubIT version keep the ranking of the old SW version? I read in one of the older posts from 2010 that the rankings would stay with the new version, but I wasn't sure if things had changed.
Thanks.

I tried it and now I have two instances of the same book and they ranking on each one is different. I think I'll wait a day or so and remove the one with the highest rank.

Are you removing the book from SW completely? Or are you just unticking the B&N option? I hope you are not completely pulling the book from SW because you lose the other options like Sony, Apple, Diesel and such.
Are you doing this to see the immediate sales reports?
Just curious.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has done this, too. When I first started, PubIt was in its infancy, so I went through SW. With my last book, I put it directly up through PubIt, but I'd like to switch the others over, as well. Didn't know what the lag time would be or if there would end up being overlap.

I pulled the B&N option from SW and went direct with PubIt and did not see a change in rankings. They even linked to the paperback version after I sent an email. But keep with SW for iBookstore, Kobo etc. I don't think you can get there any other way. You'll make more on each sale without the SW cut, which is why I did it.

When I pulled my free short stories from B&N through SW, it took a couple weeks. I've kept my other short story collections through SW because the royalty rate for 99 cent books is higher (60cents versus 30 with PubIt) so I don't know about switching to B&N, just taking ones down.

Well, I left the two versions up. The PubIt version has a rank of 117,400 while the SW version has a rank of 1359. I'm afraid to remove the SW version because I don't want to lose the ranking. The book now shows up in the top five bestsellers in two different romance categories and sales are strong.
A friend of mine pulled her SW version and replaced with the PubIT version. Result: her ranking changed from around 1400 to 178,000 and dropped off all the bestseller lists. We're waiting to see if it climbs back up to the ranking of the SW version.

*Off topic but your covers are just gorgeous!*

Thanks, Kay! Guess what? I'm about to change three of the covers.
The BN ranking on my friend's book is still in the 140,000's. It doesn't look like the PubIT version is going to inherit the ranking of her original SW version.
