I'm a huge Edgar Rice Burroughs fan, and own all the Mars novels in various hardbacks. But I want to have them on my Kindle as well (I'm doing a review series for a website, and it's easy for to take notes as I read if I'm reading on the kindle). There are quite a few editions on Kindle, most for $.99. Quite a few only contain the first five, which are in the public domain. Has anyone purchased one of these editions, and which ones are the best formatted?

I have tried the ProjectGutenberg editions for the five that are PD, but I rather have something with better formatting and navigation.

A bit of an aside, but I lived in Tarzana, CA for over a decade - so named because ERB made his home there.  A few tidbits:

1.  I watched them turn his original homesite into an entire subdivision of $1M+ homes over the course of about 2-3 years.
2.  The local post office always had a rotating collection of ERB memorabilia in display cases while you waited in line (clippings, books, letters, etc).
3.  Not to be outdone, the local McDonald's had their own ERB wall (poster, placard, announcements about 2-for-1 McMuffins) next to the cash registers...

...which seemed appropriate for one of the wealthiest "fast food" writers of his era!

It's been so long since I've read them I couldn't tell you.  Embarrassed

But, I am looking forward to the movie coming out, I believe, later this year.  Smiley

I'd guess that's likely to see the books relaunched in new editions.

On a loosely-related note, I did enjoy this upcoming anthology (no original Burroughs fiction though, if that's what you're looking for):

Under the Moons of Mars edited by John Joseph Adams

Looking around for Mars, I was quite please with the edition of The Land That Time Forgot: The Complete Caspak Trilogy in One Volume from Ignacio Hills Press. This is my favorite Burroughs novel—and it is one novel, serialized in three parts in Blue Book originally and published as a single hardback; it was in the '60s paperback boom that the three parts of the serial were broken up into individuals novels, The Land That Time Forgot, The People That Time Forgot, and Out of Time's Abyss. As a whole novel, to be read straight through, it brings many more rewards.

The ProjectGutenberg edition and the free version on Amazon aren't well-formatted, so I think 99˘ is a great bargain for the Ignacio Kindle version, which includes some of the illustrations.

I have the mobile reference complete Burroughs collection. Has mist everything he write, certainly seems to have all the barsoom stories. Also has a linked table of contents.Called "the works of Edgar rice Burroughs (50+works)".

Hmm, looks like it is currently unavailable. Maybe there is an updated version? it would suck if all these megacollections have been pulled.

That's a great cover on that version. I grew up on Whelan covers, those are still my favorites.
